P1701 What It Really Means

Many times we receive requests to simply “remove P1701” from DSG / TCM mechatronic units.

P1701 usually points to an immobilizer authorization problem inside the transmission control unit. In simple words, the TCM does not have a valid immobilizer state, or the data inside the unit does not match what the vehicle expects.

This is not normally a fault code that should just be deleted or hidden.

In many cases, P1701 appears after someone has made an incorrect or incomplete IMMO OFF solution on the TCM. The car may still have immobilizer-related data problems, and the control unit reports this as a fault.

The correct repair is to apply a proper IMMO OFF solution to the unit, not just remove the DTC.

To fix this issue, we need a complete backup of the TCM:

Flash
External EEPROM
Correct vehicle VIN

Once these files are available, the customer can order the proper DSG IMMO OFF service here:

Do it properly once, instead of trying to patch the symptoms.
